Ryan Murphy’s idea for Season 10 of American Horror Story is the latest creative endeavor to be affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

While there is no indication when it would even be ready to film, or be released, Murphy told The Wrap that his specific idea may not be possible now.

Murphy released a cryptic Instagram tease for Season 10 in March, featuring two hands off a shore line with the caption reading, ‘Things are beginning to wash up on shore…’

When asked about the new season, Murphy indicated it might have to be pushed because this specific idea would be required to shoot in warmer summer months, which may not be possible with the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.

“Well I don’t know, because a lot of what I was going to shoot was dependent on a very specific moment, it was a weather-dependent show,’ Murphy said.

‘So now I don’t know. I don’t know what we’re going to do. I don’t know what I’m gonna do next with that show,’ he added.

‘I don’t know if I’ll accelerate another season or wait till next year to shoot this one,’ Murphy added about the season.

FX has currently renewed American Horror Story through Season 13, so Murphy does have the flexibility to push this weather-themed idea to a future season.

Still, as of now, he’s not sure when the conditions will be right to film, adding he’s waiting for some sort of a plan to be put in place for safe filming.

‘You know, nobody so far has called me up and said, ‘OK, we have a plan to move forward for shooting,’ Murphy said.

‘So until that day, everybody is kind of on pause. I honestly don’t know. But it’s a great season and I know all the actors are chomping at the bit to get into it, so that’s all I know,’ the AHS creator added.

Murphy, who most recently debuted his new Netflix series Hollywood, has teased the season would star AHS mainstays Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Evan Peters, Leslie Grossman, Billie Lourd, Adina Porter, Lily Rabe, Angelica Ross and Finn Wittrock, along with franchise newcomer Macaulay Culkin.

Murphy also revealed on Thursday that, in this season, Culkin’s character would have, ‘crazy, erotic sex with Kathy Bates.’

When asked how Culkin responded to that news about his character, Murphy said, ‘He paused and he goes, “This sounds like the role I was born to play.” So, he signed up right then and there.’

The role will mark the first time ever that Culkin will have a series regular role in a TV series.
