Emergency underway on Australian paradise island after a woman was shot in the back – with two gunmen still on the loose as locals are warned to avoid the area
A woman has been shot in the back, with police issuing an emergency declaration as they hunt for the gunmen.
QLD Police officers were called to a home in Rothwell, north of Brisbane, around 8am on Thursday following reports of a serious assault.
Officers tracked a vehicle of interest to Bribie Island, north of Rothwell, where an emergency declaration was made at 10.45am.

The emergency declaration was made under the Public Safety Preservation Act and shut down a number of streets surrounding Bribie Island.
The Public Safety Preservation Act encompasses Bigmulys St, Sylvan Beach Esplanade, Elkhorn Avenue and Eucalyptus St.
Officers from the Special Emergency Response Team and Public Safety Response Team are searching for the two men.
Members of the public have been asked to avoid the area.
The woman has been taken to hospital in a serious condition.
